Exclude Israel from the World Ultimate Frisbee Club Championships

This week, the World Ultimate Club Championships begin in Ireland. Palestinians are calling for the exclusion of the team from Israel, New Age Ultimate.

Allowing Israeli teams to compete in international sporting competitions sanitises Israel’s atrocities and allows it to present itself as a normal country, obscuring the truth that it is carrying out a genocide in Gaza, and imposing a regime of settler-colonialism, military occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.

Write to the British teams to ask them to support the exclusion of the Israeli team and refuse to play against it.

If you are competing in the division with the Israeli team, I am asking you to commit to refuse to play against it.So far, three participating teams have pledged to refuse to play the Israeli team. It is essential that you join them in opposing genocide and supporting Palestinian human rights.Israel is carrying out an ongoing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has killed many tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people. In the West Bank, Palestinians are facing unprecedented assaults by the Israeli military and attempts to ethnically cleanse them from their homes and land.   Allowing Israeli teams to compete in international sporting competitions sanitises this horrific violence and allows Israel to cynically present itself as a normal country, obscuring the truth that it is carrying out a genocide in Gaza, and imposing a regime of settler-colonialism, military occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.Sport in Israel is deeply embedded in Israel’s oppression of Palestinians. The Israeli Flying Disc Association (IFDA), of which New Age Ultimate is a part, has dedicated a limited edition frisbee to Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip and organised tournaments for soldiers committing genocide.Moreover, the IFDA includes teams based in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land whose residents have been forcibly dispossessed. This includes the Raccoons based in the illegal settlement of Alfei Menashe. The IFDA is therefore strengthening Israel's military occupation of Palestinian land, ruled unlawful by the International Court of Justice.Inspired by the boycott movement against apartheid South Africa, Palestinians have long called for a sporting boycott of Israel in order for hold it accountable for its crimes against them.While I don’t underestimate the challenges involved, it is crucial that you don’t participate in sportswashing Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians. You have an opportunity to take a meaningful stand for human rights and justice.</div>
