UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) have been at it again - adding to their long list of racist and discriminatory attempts to erase Palestinian history, identity, and political campaigns, in order to support Israel's project of settler-colonisation, apartheid and ongoing genocide. UKLFI is closely linked with the UK Lawyers for Israel Charitable Trust, which is already being investigated by the Charity Commission. Yet, UKLFI is continuing to target Palestinians and those standing up for Palestinian rights.

Palestinians are facing real erasure through Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing, and attempts by pro-Israel groups here like UKLFI, as well as the British government, to erase or crack down on Palestinian identity and protest.

Dear Charity Commission,<div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW84983857 BCX8">I am writing to express my deep concern over actions carried out by UK Lawyers for Israel Limited (UKFLI), which is closely linked with the UK Lawyers for Israel Charitable Trust, regulated by the Charity Commission. I am concerned that this organisation is using its charitable trust as a cover for activities by its non-charitable wing to promote discriminatory and racist positions towards Palestinians. I understand that the Charity Commission has already opened a <a class="Hyperlink SCXW84983857 BCX8" href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/charity-commission-launches-investigation-uk-lawyers-israels-charitable-trust-0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">compliance case</a> looking into this charity and its relationship to UKLFI, and I am writing to urge you to include evidence from recent incidents at the British Museum and the Open University in your investigation. </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW84983857 BCX8">UKLFI’s charitable objectives are stated to be the advancement of “legal education” and to “promote racial harmony.” In reality, UKLFI uses threats, misinformation and vexatious complaints against public bodies and private organisations in an attempt to disrupt support for international law, human rights advocacy for the Palestinian people, and to erase Palestinian history, identity, and political campaigns. Both incidents at the <a class="Hyperlink SCXW84983857 BCX8" href="https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/british-museum-removal-term-palestine-displays-part-systematic-attempt-erase-it-history" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">British Museum</a> and the <a class="Hyperlink SCXW84983857 BCX8" href="https://novaramedia.com/2026/03/03/open-university-u-turns-on-ancient-palestine-ban/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Open University</a> are prime examples of this and have been carried out by UKLFI whilst the Charity Commission’s case is ongoing, in part using the benefits it receives through the Trust’s charitable status.  </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW84983857 BCX8">Further examples of this conduct have already been detailed in a complaint about UKLFI referred to the <a class="Hyperlink SCXW84983857 BCX8" href="https://www.theguardian.com/law/2025/aug/21/pro-israel-lawyers-investigated-over-alleged-legal-threats-to-suppress-support-for-palestine" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Solicitors Regulation Authority</a>, which provides evidence of how this group uses the law improperly to threaten civil society groups and for operating as an unregulated legal firm. </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW84983857 BCX8">Given that UKLFI’s campaigns are aimed at shielding Israel from accountability and erasing Palestinian identity, history, and culture, it is crucial that the evidence outlined against UKLFI and UKLFI Charitable Trust be understood within the context of international law. Israel is currently on trial for genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has already ruled that Israel’s occupation is unlawful and that it is guilty of violating the prohibition on racial segregation and apartheid. </div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW84983857 BCX8">This mounting body of evidence should now trigger a Statutory Inquiry, under section 46 of the Charities Act 2011, to ensure that the Charity Commission is upholding its obligations as the regulator responsible for ensuring that charities in Britain comply with charity law, and to maintain public trust in its ability to do so. </div>
