PETITION: Look Mum No Computer must withdraw from Eurovision
To Sam Battle (Look Mum No Computer),
We, the undersigned, ask you to heed the Palestinian call to withdraw from Eurovision, to avoid being part of an event providing cover for Israel’s genocide, military occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.
Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip has killed many tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of Palestinians and caused incalculable devastation. In the West Bank, Israel is ramping up its military assaults and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
By refusing to expel Israel, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is providing Israel with a stage to conceal these atrocities by cynically presenting itself as fun and lighthearted in an international arena.
Israel’s participating public broadcaster KAN has repeatedly justified and incited genocide on air, including by publishing a video of Israeli children singing “we will annihilate them all [Palestinians in Gaza].”
Israel’s continued inclusion in Eurovision has been widely condemned. In an unprecedented move, 5 countries have withdrawn from this year’s contest in protest at Israel’s participation. The Palestinian call for a boycott of Eurovision is supported by many thousands of leading artists and cultural workers, hundreds of queer organisations and millions of people across Europe.
By participating in the contest, you are providing endorsement for an event that whitewashes Israel’s crimes against Palestinians. We ask you to heed the Palestinian call and withdraw from Eurovision, joining many of your fellow artists in taking a principled stance against artwashing genocide.
