Stop Rosebank Petition
We, the undersigned, believe that the UK Government must reject the Rosebank oil field. Profits from Rosebank would flow to Ithaca Energy, majority-owned by the Delek Group – an Israeli fuel conglomerate that profits from illegal settlements in the West Bank and supplies fuel to the Israeli military while it carries out atrocities against Palestinians.
Delek’s operations contribute to the ongoing violence and dispossession of Palestinians. If Rosebank goes ahead, more than £200 million in profits could flow towards Delek Group – adding to the hundreds of millions that Delek has already received from Ithaca’s North Sea operations.
There is no shortage of arguments against Rosebank - from its catastrophic climate impact to the potential loss to the Treasury of hundreds of millions of pounds, thanks to massive tax breaks. New oil and gas projects like Rosebank are a bad deal for the UK and won’t lower our energy bills, or make our energy supply more reliable. But the risk that its profits may support a company linked to human rights violations against Palestinians is indefensible.
The UK government must:
Stop the flow of North Sea oil profits to companies linked to occupation and genocide in Palestine: The UK government must ensure that no profit from North Sea oil and gas exploitation goes to Ithaca Energy, or any other oil & gas companies that are complicit in the illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, or companies that provide services to the Israeli military. It can do this by denying permission to develop fossil fuel projects for Ithaca Energy, including rejecting the Rosebank oil field and future applications for the Cambo oil field.
Help end the genocide in Gaza and Israel's occupation of Palestine: The UK government must ensure Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza permanently cease; implement an arms embargo on Israel; employ every diplomatic tool to help end the siege, genocide and ensure humanitarian aid access to Gaza, and to bring to an end Israel's system of apartheid.
