Write to your MP: Defend the right to protest

The government has tabled an extreme proposal to give police new powers to restrict or effectively ban recurring protests based on their supposed ‘cumulative impact.’ Early Day Motion 2272 calls on the government to withdraw this draconian plan.

If the proposal becomes law, it would require the police to take into account any cumulative disruption caused by past protests or planned future protests in the same ‘area’ when deciding whether to impose restrictions. This might include an entire town or the whole of central London and it will not matter whether the protests are for the same cause or involve the same people. It follows a succession of anti-protest laws, and this or any future government could use these powers to effectively stamp out protests of any kind.

We know that the government is trying to attack our movement for Palestinian rights to shield itself and Israel from accountability. We will not be silenced.

Write to your MP today and ask them to sign EDM 2272 to uphold our democratic right to protest.
